1805

31  March  1805

  • Name: Almon, John
  • Gender: Male
  • Birth Date: 17  December  1737
  • Death Date: 12  December  1805
  • Occupation: bookseller and political journalist

Almon was a pamphleteer and publisher renowned for his courage in publishing work critical of the government. He was a great friend and supporter of John Wilkes. He appears once in 1805 at a dinner at Philips's in March, but is mentioned again in Godwin's '1796' list. Given the relatively unusual name, his interest in political journalism, the connection to Philips, and the matching dates, this identification seems solid.
