Amyot became private secretary to secretary at war William Windham in 1806. He later worked in the Colonial Office and in 1830, with John Payne Collier, he purchased the mancuscript collection of plays owned by the widowed Anna Larpent. These papers are now held in the Huntington Library, Pasadena. Amyot was a friend of the Lambs. Godwin wrote to him on a number of occasions in 1819-20 with queries on emigration to Canada, presumably research for his Of Population.
