William Godwin's Diary

Barham, Richard Harris

  • Name: Barham, Richard Harris
  • Gender: Male
  • Birth Date: 6  December  1788
  • Death Date: 17  June  1845
  • Occupation: writer
  • Occupation: Church of England clergyman

Barham was a writer and Church of England clergyman, founding member of the Garrick Club, contributor to many conservative-minded periodicals, very involved in Bentley's Miscellany, and so a prominent member of London literary culture. Godwin generally sees him 'adv' at the theatre.

Another possibility is Thomas Foster Barnham, the physician and classical scholar but his family all seem to be in the West Country during the years that Barham appears in the diary (that is, 1824-35) which makes it improbable. He also moves to Exeter in 1830 which further discounts him.
