July 4. Su. Chaucer, revise. Charpentier and Braham of Boston call: Lambs and Fenwick at tea; adv. M . In the appendixes to: Musical Interludes in Boston 1795-1830 (H. EARLE JOHNSON, 1943 COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY PRESS, NEW YORK) lists 'Said a Smile to a Tear – sung by Mr. Braham, Boston, from ‘False Alarms’. Thwere is also a John Braham (1777-1856) who was a major singer on the British stage in this period. But there seems to be no connection between his family and the Boston Brahams. It seems likely that Godwin sees this (English) Braham perform on 17 February 1820
