Thomas Breillat was tried for and convicted of sedition in 1793. He was sentenced to twelve months in Newgate although it is not clear how long he actually served. He is mentioned in the preface to the last sermon Joseph Priestley delivered before he emigrated in April 1794, The Present State of Europe compared with Ancient Prophecies, A Sermon(London, 1794), p. v. Breillat’s trial is recorded in The trial of Thomas Briellat, for seditious words, before Mr. Mainwaring, at the Sessions-House, Clerkenwell-Green, December 6, 1793.
