Godwin noted the execution of John Cashman who had taken an active part in the assault and plunder of Mr Beckwith’s gunsmith shop in Skinner Street where Godwin also had his premises. The assault took place on 2 December 1816, after which the mob had marched to the Tower of London to try and persuade troops to join them. Cashman was hanged in front of Beckwith’s shop.
