  • Name: Christall, Elizabeth (Cristall)
  • Gender: Female
  • Birth Date: 1745
  • Death Date: 1801
  • Occupation: Teacher

We know that Wollstonecraft knew Anne and Joshua Cristall (poet and painter respectively), but it also seems possible that she also knew their mother, Elizabeth, who is described as a ‘woman of education and taste’ (DNB) and as having influenced the education and artistic development of her children. Equally, there is another daughter Elizabeth and it may be her to whom the entry for E. Christal refers. Godwin meets her once at Wollstonecrafts. There is also several references to Cristal and one to Miss Cristall - which we have taken to be references respectively to Joshua and Anne, although this assumes consistency on Godwin's part. There also seems to be one entry to Mr Christall in 1796, which is uncoded. (see DNB entry for Anne Cristall and Joshua Critall).
