Mary Shelley was close to Isabel Robinson, the daughter of Joshua Robinson, who is described as Mrs Sholto Douglas. Godwin himself refers to: 'Robinson, père de Douglas' (12 November 1827). In fact, according to Betty Bennet's entry on Mary Shelley in the DNB, Mr Douglas was Mary Dians Dods, a novelist, who passed as male. It is difficult to be certain that the Douglas entries in 1824 are to Sholto Douglas, although it is probable that they are, but the reference in 1827 looks clear. The entries for 1824 are uncoded.
