Godwin was clearly trying to get Robert William Elliston to read - or perhaps to play a part in Faulkner in November 1807, after he completed the play. It was, in fact performed from 16 to 19 December 1807. The diary registers 'disappointment' in relation to Elliston on several occasions in November and December 1807.
It is also probable that the Elliston's of 1798 are to Robert William. One meeting takes place in Bath where Elliston was based after a short stint in London in 1796 and 1797 - and it follows a meeting with Mrs Elliston at Harriett Lee's. The other is later in the year in London. The 1831 entry links him with Lumley Skeffington.
