Godwin records his death and there are two contacts in 1818 and 1820. It seems likely that the 1820 contact was a case of Godwin sending Gifford a copy of his work on Population to be reviewed in the Quarterly Review, which Gifford edited. Although a Tory periodical, and although Gifford had been a writer for and editor of the Anti-Jacobin Review, Godwin probably hoped he would get a more sympathetic reception than he would from the Edinburgh Review, given its dominance by the political economists. In fact, he fared little better.
