P Godwin is an unidentified relative of Godwin's who appears often with Hannah Godwin, his sister, and other Godwins. P G appears seventeen times between 1802 and 1805, and there are two Phebe G entries, one each in 1808 and 1812. The first entry notes the indenture of P G. The entries subsequently are also to P G. Some, as in 1804 are to P and W Godwin, and there seems some contact in relation to a Miss Yates. Only the last two entries in 1808 and then 1812 are to Phebe. Given this pattern, it is likely that there is a P Godwin, who becomes an indentured servant in 1802 in London, and maintains contact with Godwin until 1805 (which might be the end of the indenture contract). There is also a Phebe Godwin, whom Godwin meets in 1808 and 1812. In 1808 Godwin notes Jo, N [W] + Phebe G, + G M C dine. In 1812 Godwin sees N G, and notes that Phebe and H G are present). These suggest a link between Nathaniel and Phebe Godwin. It is, however, possible that the P G entries prior to 1808 are also to Phebe - here too there are links to other Godwins, such as W G, and it may be that this is a niece of Godwin's who comes to London as an indentured servant. Given that we cannot be confident one way or another we have coded both P G and Phebe G under this code.
