Note the letter from H Grattan 5 May 1798 saying he will call in response to WG' s note - in fact, Godwin calls on Grattan on 11 May 1798 but Grattan is not available; Grattan then breakfasts on 17 May 1798
There is also a letter dated 5 June 1812 from H Grattan inviting G to dinner, followed the next day 'Dine at Grattan's, w. Langrishe' and the DNB lists the Langrishes as friends of Henry Grattan. Also on 29 July 1800 'dine at Grattan's; talk of O'Connor, Emmet and secession' . See the letter of 11 June 1805 in which Capel Lofft confirms that the Grattan at Godwin's in 1805 is the same at appears in the State Trials in Rochester and Maidstone.
There are various entries for Grattan after Henry Grattan has died He has two sons - James (soldier and MP) and Henry (biographer and MP) - and while we can guess that the H Grattan who fights a duel two days after his father's death is Henry. Coll Grattan appears to be Colley Grattan. We have coded the entries for those we believe are the sons as Henry Grattan, but James is equally a possibility for the three uncoded Grattan entries.
Godwin correctly records his death.
