Mary Crossley Hall was the sister of Mrs Somerville Wood, with whom she lived. She was devoted to Mrs Wood's daughter (who became Mrs Leicester Stanhope). Halls linked to Wood and to Stanhope are coded as Mary Hall. It is possible that this might confuse entries for her with those for her brother, Thomas James Hall, b. 5 Dec 1788, who became chief magistrate of the Bow Steet Police Court - and who prior to that seems to have been Advocate General of Jamaica 1819. He returned to England and married Agnes Carr. The absence of 'Miss' before 'Hall' does not signify since Godwin does not distinguish his contacts consistently in this way. See New Monthly Belle Assembleé (1844) p. 164.
