Hayward studied under Godwin's ex-friend Francis Twiss in Bath (1807-11) (Twiss had ceased contact after Godwin married Wollstonecraft). Hayward moved to London in 1824. He was called to the bar in 1832 and later translated Goethe's Faust, which won him some fame and the friendship of many literary luminaries.
