Godwin records his death in 1793. There also seems to have been a meeting in March 1791, at Helen Maria Williams' which was attended by several of Godwin's medical acquaintance (and Hunter's wife was also a poet). This identification is not certain, but seems likely.
There are a number of other 'Hunter' entries in the diary. It seems likely that Godwin is identifying Rowland Hunter (Joseph Johnson's grand-nephew);In each case the identification relies on the use of an initial. In addition, however, there are twenty plain 'Hunter' entries, spanning the diary: 1789-03-16; 1794-12-15; 1795-01-31;1798-12-18; 1799-08-06;1801-04-01; 1801-12-28;1806-01-14;1815-03-22;1815-11-17; 1817-04-22;1817-07-05;1818-09-20;1818-10-25;1818-10-30; 1821-06-06;1829-02-13;1833-11-18;1834-05-12;1835-05-28.
There are also four entries for 'Hunters':1794-09-17; 1794-12-10;1833-06-30;1834-04-02; and on for Hunter’s: 1823-02-08. There is also a Dr Hunter in 1798-03-20; and a 'Hunter fr' in 1811-06-29.
Also, in a letter to A Constable, 23 Nov 1809 Godwin refers to a Mr [Alexander] Hunter who was in partnership with Constable, managing his London premises - which suggests a further possibility for some of these non-initialed Hunters. See the entry on Constable in the DNB.This table lists the people this person is most frequently noted with in the diary.
