The identification of '2 Landseers' or '3 Landseers' is difficult to deduce from the diary. Godwin seems to have similar levels of contact with both John Landseer and his sons, Charles and Edwin . It may be that '2 Landseers' often refer to the brothers and '3 Landseers' to the trio. An 1836 entry refers to a sister however, and the Landseer family was sufficiently large and talented (see DNB) to make any such statements tenuous. Indeed, the entry of 10 October 1831 (Sup at Martin’s, w. Edwin + 3 Landseers) disproves it as a general rule.
