Godwin lists 'Lathrop' in his list of names under 1802. The diary shows 2 mentions of 'Lathorp' (note spelling) in 1802, and 1 'Lathorpe' in the same year.

On 6 July 1802 the Morning Chronicle reported, 'On Saturday a second examination of the claioms of Mr. King on the bankrupt estate of Lathrop (the Portland Bank affairs) took place at the Guildhall. Out of the claims by Mr. King to the amount of about 7000 l. the commissioners only allowed 188 l?. In the course of the business, Mr. Agar. counsel for Lathrop, took occasion to state that notes had been issued under the partnership nominally to the amount of 130,000l. Several holders of notes claimed, but the confederation of them was postponed, and the holders had no vote in the choice of assignees. Three respectable gentleman were at last appointed.'

According to the Derby Mercury 21 October 1802, a Lathrop Murray was being examined for Bankruptcy in 1802, where he was 'rendered much the object of public curiosity' due to his connection with John 'Jew' King.

The references to ‘King’ in the diary consistently refer to John King (radical and money lender) [formerly Jacob Rey] (c.1753–1824). In the 1802 entries, Godwin dines at King's , 'w. Lathorp, Derval, Fowden, Fitzgerald and Stacy ' and another time with Prescot, Ling and Plowdens 5; adv. Lathorp, Davis and abbé'. Given this evidence, it's likely that this is the same Lathrop Murray.
