Locke shows that Godwin sought an apprenticeship for William with John Nash, and succeeded: William started with Nash at the end of December 1820. However, William failed to stick at it (possibly as early as August 1821). There are also entries for 1823 which might be this Nash, as may the entry at the theatre in 1826.

Also present in the Diary are entries concerning the glass manufacturers Andrew and George Nash, who purchased a substantial post-obit bond of Shelley's in the spring and early summer of 1814. See St Clair, p. 355.

Entries in 1819 are to the Poet Thomas Nashe (1657-1601).
