See DNB. North, Dudley Long (bap. 1748, d. 1829), politician, orig. Dudley Long, changed his name to North in 1789. Supporter of Charles James Fox, and went on to support reform and the attack the government's policies in the early 1800s. Godwin has a very slight connection with him through Lauderdale in 1796 (noted in the 1796 list, with the diary entry being to 'D. North), but he also seems to see him in 1807 and 1811 and 1815, with some link to Curran, which is plausible. The DNB describes him as a 'popular member of both political and literary circles.'
