Godwin records his death. There is one other reference to a Quick, at a dinner at King's in 1795.
We have coded this also as John Quick, actor, although there is no conclusive evidence. However,
it is a fairly rare name and Quick appears in the 1796 lists under 1795.
By the 1790s John Quick was a very famous comic actor and thus certainly the kind of person whom
Godwin would have recorded meeting in the lists. There is also some circumstantial evidence
from the context:
31 March 1795: 'dine at King’s, w. Lewis, Quick, Wolcot, Casey and Ht:'
Holcroft,Wolcot and Lewis - likely to
be William Thomas Lewis, (1746-1812), actor and
theatre manager - suggest this to be a meeting of like-minded theatrical/comedic types. The meeting
is shortly before the 'Benefit' performance for and by Quick at Covent Garden on 8 April 1795.
