Quin is credited with introducing homeopathic medicine to Britain. He studied at Edinburgh University and after graduation was offered the post of ohysician to Napoleon on St Helena. Instead he went to Italy to practise among the ex-patriate community there. After some years working in carious parts of Europe, he returned to London in 1832 and he founded the British Homoeopathic Society in 1844. He was a valued member of the social and literary scene in London.
The identification is supported by the association with Thomas Uwins who painted his portrait and spoke affectionately of him in his memoirs.
