The Rackstrow family feature in Godwin's 1801 visit to Oxford. T. Rackstrow owned and operated the Bear Inn on the High Street (but seems to have sold up in April 1801, issuing a call to all debtors and creditos to settle their accounts (Jackson's Oxford Journal); while Mrs Rackstrow established a Bookseller, Stationary, and Fancy Goods emporium on Cornmarket in 1802. On 9 October Godwin dines with F Rackstraw at the Mitre (along with the Mavors and Phillips), and two days later he visits Blenheim Pleasure Gardens with F and T Rackstraw and then dines with them. There does not appear to be a connection with Rackstrow who established the Rackstrow's Anatomical Exhibition in London which lasted many years after his death in 1772 and was sold off in 1799.
