Barrister and a member of parliament from 1802 to 1807 and again from 1812 to 1831. Brother of Matthew Raine, (1760-1811) headmaster of Charterhouse School, who also appears in the diary.
He appears three times 1795. On 27 February he is noted at Frend's among a large group including Horne Tooke, Wordswoth and Dyer. Then later that year Godwin dines with him twice, first at Montagu's on 18 November then on 29 November, 'Dine at Bankes's, w. Porson, + Jo Raine; talk of Yorke's sentence'. According to the DNB, Porson was at school with Jonathan Raine and was a close friend of his brother Matthew.
The fourth and final entry is much later, 30 December 1811, 'Write to Jonathan Raine'.
