All the meetings between Rigby and Godwin are in Norwich.
Edward Rigby was born in Lancashire, but came to Norwich to study medicine and became prominent in civic affairs. He travelled to Paris in July 1789 - for his account of this trip see the collection of his letters edited by his daughter, Lady Eastlake, Dr Rigby's Letters from France in 1789 (London, 1880). Back in Norwich, he contributed to The Cabinet, was a churchwarden at St Giles' and a member of William Taylor's Speculative Society. He introduced vaccination to the city and performed 106 operations 'for the stone' at the Norfolk and Norwich hospital between 1790-1814 .
According to the DNB, Rigby was a pupil of Joseph Priestley at Warrington and a friend of Edward Jenner.
