The DNB has David Uwins (1780-1837), physician, as brother to Thomas Uwins (1782-1857), painter, illustrator and art administrator. Their father, Thomas Uwins, died in 1816. Godwin's first contact with the family is in 1822. David Uwins attends Godwin's funeral (see Mary Shelley's Journals, and also Marshall, although here the name is mispelt as Unwins).
The primary contact is with David, the physician, while Thomas is
distinguished as T Uwins. The best evidence for this is the following two entries:
19.10.1831: 'Dine at Uwins’s , w. T Uwins, Eastlake, Coronati and miss Temple.'
3.2.1835: 'dine at Uwins’s , w. Fox, Dr Stewart, Smith, Mason, Hardy, T Uwins and T Ht.'
These show that plain Uwins must be David, while Thomas is distinguished by initial. They also show that David Uwins's
was a
place Godwin dined, and there are several other 'dine at Uwins'.
Other supporting evidence includes the entry of 27 August 1835, 'Uwins calls (prescription)'. This must be David, the physician, while the several advs with T Uwins while sitting to Joseph make sense due to the artistic contact. 'Uwins and fille' in 1829 is also likely to refer to David as he is the only one of the brothers married at this point. Further evidence is given by Thomas Uwins's DNB entry. He was out of England from the autumn of 1824 and returned shortly before the RA exhibition of 1832. This tallies with the fact that T Uwins only appears in the diary from 1831. Uwins at Exhibitions after this date are coded as T Uwins.

See the entry for David Uwins, who seems to be Godwin's major contact for the rationale for identifying the T. Uwins entries.
