That the letter to and reply from Wellington do indeed refer to the Duke is confirmed by Marshall, p. 384, describing the aftermath of the fire in the Houses of Parliament: Godwin 'immediately wrote to the Duke of Wellington, who said that he would look into the matter' (Marshall, p. 384). The letter is not in Abinger.
