  • Name: Westall, Richard
  • Gender: Male
  • Birth Date: 2  January  1765
  • Death Date: 4  December  1836
  • Occupation: painter
  • Occupation: illustrator

Close friend of Lawrence. Godwin sees him first in 1797, but without a context; he then meets him at an exhibition in 1800 with many artists, including Lawrence. Then he calls on him in 1802. There are no further entries until 1832. It is possible that these later entries refer to Richard's younger brother William who was a painter and engraver, but the latter was not as prominent a figue, and there is a suggestion that he may have had a rather retiring disposition after his breakdown in the 1810s. The later entries provide little context to allow confident identification.
