  • Name: Wordsworth, Dorothy
  • Gender: Female
  • Birth Date: 25  December  1771
  • Death Date: 25  January  1855
  • Occupation: writer

Dorothy Wordsworth was William Wordsworth's sister, who lived with her brother as part of his family after 1794.

In a 28 November 1810 letter to Hazlitt, Charles Lamb writes: 'her indisposition has been ever since that night you left town; the night Miss W[ordsworth] came. her coming, and...mrs Godwin coming and staying so late that night, so overset her that she lay broad awake all that night...' .

Godwin's entry reads: 09.10.1810: 'Haines (from Tabart ) and J Davis n call: Baptist’s Head; Phillips, Tabart, Hannam, Phipps, Hurst, Letterman, Lackington, Rivington and Espinasse : call on Tuthill and Longdill : sup at Lamb’s , w. miss Wordsworth, Dawe, Hazlit and M J; adv. H Kn .

Note: Hazlitt appears frequently before October 1810 but does not appear for the rest of the year, so probably left on the night to which Lamb refers.
