The DNB lists a John Chamberlaine, antiquary, who died in 1812 but there are further mentions of the name later in the diary, so this attribution is unlikely.
The contacts are virtually all calls, so it is difficult to glean anything from context, but there is also a meeting and a 'CC from Place, Aldis, Chamberlaine and Lambert' (24.04.1815). Given this entry and the fact that contacts are generally confined to calls and not meals/theatre etc. it is likely to be someone who is involved somehow in Godwin's finances.
There is a William Chamberlaine, (b. 1752) Secretary of the Society for Relief of the widows and orphans of medical men in London and its vicinity, and author of a number of medical books, plus a Life of T. Cooke, a Miser, Late of Pentonville (1813). But the contacts with Chamberlain are almost entirely devoid of context so it is impossible to judge whether it might be this individual. This table lists the people this person is most frequently noted with in the diary.
