George Dyer was an influential Unitarian and Cambridge Dissenter. He was an associate of William Frend and Benjamin Flower, and an advocate of reform, both in relation to the Test and Corporation Acts and the French Revolution, publishing An Inquiry into the Nature of Subscription to the Thirty-Nine Articles in 1789 and a revised edition which appeared in 1792. He also wrote The complaints of the poor people of England: containing remarks I. On government, II. On the defects in the ... government, as to representation ... (1793); A dissertation on the theory and practice of benevolence (1795). He was at William Frend's house in 1795 when Godwin met William Wordsworth. After his political activities in the early and mid-1790s, Dyer devoted himself to scholarship and produced several important publications.
