  • Name: Fawcett, Joseph
  • Gender: Male
  • Birth Date: 1758
  • Death Date: 24  January  1804
  • Occupation: Presbyterian minister

Fawcett was a dissenting minister with extremely fashionable views who preached the Sunday evening lecture at the Old Jewry meeting-house from 1785. He gave up his lecturing in 1795 and moved to a farm in Hertfordshire with his wife (Charlotte Fawcett, neé French), where he concentrated on his poetry. William Wordsworth based the character of the Solitary on him in his long poem The Excursion. Godwin considered him one of his 'four principal oral instructors', along with Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Thomas Holcroft, and George Dyson. The 1796 list states that they met first in 1778.

Godwin recorded his death.
