According to the editorial notes to Mary Shelley's Journal R W Hayward was Godwin's solicitor, in Tooke's Court, Chancery Lane; he also acted for Shelley.

There are three main Haywoods/Heywoods:
Samuel Heywood (1753-1828), judge and author - which is sometimes mispelt and which accounts for references to either spelling, up to 1812.
Richard Hayward (this code), Godwin's solicitor, in Tooke's Court, Chancery Lane - which accounts for most references from 1813 (which is where the calls begin, often in conjunction with other people involved in Godwin's finances such as Place). From 1813 the contacts shoot up and are practically all calls, some with PBS. One odd one in 1815 is 'Call in Hayward (Borough)'. In 1816, amidst the calls, he reads 'Hayward, Hen. IV' and 'Hayward, William I' and they meet at the British Gallery. 1817 includes 'Call on Hayward, for Christie's' (20.5) and 'Tieck and Hayward call (bonne nouvelle)' (13.7). In 1818 there is an exhibition amidst all the calls. 2.3.1819: 'Hayward calls, Special', 15.10.1819 'Hayward twice; Consultation', 18.10.1819, 'Guildhall; meet Hayward'. 30.10.1821 'Call on .... Hayward (settlemt of accts)'. 17.10.1823 'Call on Hayward, from Read'. The calls do not cease with Richard's death in 1824. Over the next few weeks he calls several times at Hayward's and has contact with Hayward jr. There are then no contacts for ten years. These immediate post-mortem contacts have been coded for Richard Hayward, on the grounds that Godwin is effectively dealing with his estate and attempting to extricate his business.
Abraham Hayward -which accounts for all eight entries which appear between 1834 and 1836 (Samuel and Richard are no longer alive by this point, and most of the eight contacts are at fashionable soirees (Lady Stepney's, Babbage's, Leic Stanhope's, Martin's, Gaskel's) and the rest are calls/meets. [NOTE: Abraham's DNB entry references correspondence with Babbage].). Emily W. Sunstein's Mary Shelley: Romance and Reality has several mentions of her friendship with Abraham Hayward.
In addition, some of the titles he is reading seem to refer to the Renaissance historian Sir John Hayward, who wrote about William I and Henry IV.

However, some entries remain unclear. Between 1813 and 1824 there are a few entries which are not plain business calls and which fit more closely with the earlier contacts with Samuel Heywood. Most of these are noted above - at exhibitions, the Guildhall, the British Gallery - but we have taken the view that these refer to Richard.
