William Hunter was an American senator (Federalist Party) from 1811-1821. He also studied law at the Inner Temple, London sometime in the period 1791-93. There is no evidence of any contact with Godwin at that time but there is an entry in September 1817 to 'Hunter, Sen. Am., calls.'
