There is no entry for John Pitchford in the DNB but there are a number of references to him in Jewson's Jacobin City.
He appears in a number of entries and all but one of Godwin's contacts with Pitchford are in Norwich (the exception being in London in 1800) suggesting that it is probably the John Pitchford in Jacobin City: 'a devout Christian with a great enthusiasm for the revolution in France. In September 1793 he was acting as secretary of the Tusculan School, a debating society' and was later the 'largest contributor' for The Cabinet . 29 June 1794 he is present at a dinner in Norwich. Godwin notes 'talk of punishment of kings'. He was a Roman Catholic and in 1795 went in to partnership with John Sims, Chemist and Druggist, of Norwich. Godwin meets Sims in 1796, once in association with Pitchford.
