William Taylor was a prominent figure in dissenting and whiggish circles in Norwich. He was also a regular writer for the Monthly Reviewer and was acknowledged as a leading Germanist. In 1789 he was involved in the movement to repeal the Test and Corporation Acts and in 1790 he founded the Norwich Revolution Society and conducted its correspondence.
