Towers first appears in 1788 at dinners at Hollis's, in 1789 at tea with Helen Maria Williams. He dines with Godwin at Hollis's on 3 March 1789. He is present at dinner with the Revolutionists on 4 November 1789 and again on 4 November 1890:
'Revolution Society . Price in the chair. Motion by Tooke against nobility: pro. Cooper, Sharpe, Favel: con. Rees, Watson, Towers, Perry, Price—Garrow.'
On 1 November 1794, he is among those at Hardy's trial. In 1795 and 1799, he appears at dinners at King's.

The entries are most likely to be Joseph Towers senr. Towers dies in 1799 , but since his death is not noted and no attempt is made to distinguish later entries, it is possible that some of the earlier entries may be to another Towers, possibly references to Joseph's younger brother John Towers (c.1747–1804). On balance, the judgment that it is Joseph seems sound, but it is slightly puzzling that, while Godwin lists Kippis and others in 1796, there is no mention of Towers - despite his close relationship to Kippis.

The later entries (after 1799) have been coded for Towers' son Joseph Lomas Towers (1770-1831), There are a very few entries which could be ambiguous between John and Joseph Lomas Towers, most occuring after the former's death. But Godwin indicates Towers Junr in 1798 and all entries subsequent to this have been treated as Joseph junr.
