Boaden was a playwright and also wrote short fiction for the Lady's Magazine. She was the daughter of James Boaden, playwirght and dramatic biographer.

James Boaden is a consistent presence between 1795 and 1834, with Godwin usually meeting him once a year or more. Godwin's contact with Caroline is restricted to a few meetings between 1826 and 1831. He also meets her brother John on one occasion
