James Boaden was a playwright and dramatic biographer. He had some success in the 1790s with his dramatic adaptations of Ann Radcliffe and Matthew Lewis and he wrote biographies of John Kemble, Sarah Siddons, Dora Jordan, and Elizabeth Inchbald which remain important sources.
Codes have been provided for two of his children, Caroline and John, both worthy of note for literary and artistic success respectively. There are also a number of other Boadens who have not been coded but who are likely to be related, given that he had nine children. These include: Sophia, Helen, Stella, Humphrey, O, and Boaden junior.
James Boaden is a consistent presence between 1795 and 1834, with Godwin usually meeting him once a year or more. Contact with Caroline is in 1826-1831, an the one meeting with John is in 1829.
